Crossing 2011 – 2012 Student Leaders and Ministry Teams Are you creative? Do you enjoy having fun while using your voice and hands to make a positive difference? Do you find joy in including those who too often are excluded? Are you looking to join a group of people with similar passions? Then look no further! Check out our ministry teams below, find one that fits your interests, and contact a leader to join in. Don’t wait on the world to change – Be the change!SALT (Student Activities Leadership Team)
Social Team If you are looking for a way to get involved in planning more of these (and other!) spectacular events, or just some basic information about the team, contact Laura at lryoung3@wisc.edu. We’d love to have you! (Some past, present, and future events include tailgating parties, dance lessons, a knitting group, movie nights, pajama party, retreats, bowling outings, Ultimate Frisbee games, canoeing, and Study Day during finals. Keep your eye on the Calendar for upcoming events such as these!)
Do you enjoy getting your hands dirty helping others? Would you like to contribute ideas to a group organizing fun and unconventional study break opportunities? The stress of academics at a major university can be overwhelming at times, but what a more constructive way to relieve that stress than by transforming ourselves as we transform our campus and the greater Madison community through various service projects?! These projects may range from working with Habitat for Humanity, to serving at a local food pantry, volunteering at a sustainable garden, doing interfaith service projects, and whatever else your creative mind can contrive and contribute to the group. Contact Sean at sdouglass@wisc.edu if you would like to receive more information or join the team!
The Outreach Team exists because we at the Crossing are committed to sharing our vision of God’s radical love with everyone regardless of race, gender, sexuality, or religious affiliation. At different points during the year, we will focus our efforts on illuminating our extravagant welcome and celebration of the unique gifts that various groups too often ostracized in our society bring to Christ’s table. Come, conspire with us as we dream up all the ways the Crossing can extend God’s love to all – whether that be through our Vespers worship service, speaking at various student org meetings, setting up a table with information in dining halls, or handing out flyers. Contact Mary at newhauser@wisc.edu for more information!
Here at the Crossing, we like to leave lots of room for a variety of musical styles and expressions during our Vespers worship service – from your favorite hymns, to the reflective prayer-songs of the Iona and Taizé monastic traditions, to folk, alternative, and contemporary Christian music. We do so recognizing the diversity of our student’s backgrounds as well as the richness of musical expression that exists across the Christian tradition. If you have musical talents that you’d like to share with our community during Vespers, consider joining the Crossing’s Music Team (seriously, don’t let your instrument limit you – we’re happy with being an atypical band!). Music Team practices take place every Sunday from 3-4:30 pm. Contact our Music Leader, Ben Luedcke (baluedcke@wisc.edu), or our Ministry Intern, Eric Ogi (eric@crossingministries.org), if you are interested in joining the Team. Contact karla@crossingministries.org for more information on how you can get involved with planning awesome events and activities at the Crossing! |
