Sunday Vespers -- 5:30 pm Begins September 5th! Join us in a 45 minute informal gathering held in our fireside lounge on the second floor. Each service is unique and offers students a time to center in scripture, song, prayer, reflection, and various activities. It is a time when students can gather to worship, enjoy a free meal (following the service for those who wish to stay), and simply hang out and unwind before a busy week. Vespers is a relaxed and informal gathering and attracts students who like spending time in an open-minded and compassionate Christian community. Each week a message for reflection is delivered by a member of the Crossing’s staff, and a student-lead Vespers Team enriches our services with their music. The Crossing is thankful for this talented group of artists and musicians, and is always willing to welcome new members.

Centering Prayer Contemplative Practice Thursdays 2-3 pm (begins Sept 9)
"Through the discipline of prayer we awaken ourselves to the God in us and let God enter into our heartbeat and our breathing, into our thoughts and emotions, our hearing, seeing, touching, and tasting . . . Contemplation, therefore, is a participation in this divine self-recognition . . . " ~Henri Nouwen "Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out." (Romans 12:2, The Message) Students, faculty, staff, and community members are all welcome. Centering Prayer is in the tradition of Monks Thomas Merton and Thomas Keating. Father Keating states that sitting in silence for 20 minutes, twice a day, "gradually introduces us to our deeper self," but the academic world "allows no time or place to pursue this" in an organized manner. http://psyphz.psych.wisc.edu/web/News/captimes_11-8-07.html).
