Jim Wallis to Speak Oct. 21
Jim Wallis, bestselling author and Editor-in-Chief/Chief Executive Officer of Sojourners, will deliver the talk “An Evangelical Christian Looks at Jews and Muslims” as the Second Annual Rose Thering Fellow of the UW-Madison Lubar Institute for the Study of the Abrahamic Religions (LISAR). The public lecture will take place on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. in room 1100 Grainger Hall, 975 University Avenue. Food Not Bombs co-founder Keith McHenry will talk about his thirty years of cooking for peace and working to end hunger, poverty and war. Food Not Bombs shares vegan and vegetarian meals with the hungry in over 1,000 cities around the globe each week. The 45 minute presentation includes the history, principles, and current actions of the Food Not Bombs movement around the world, a 15 minute video about Food Not Bombs in Africa, closing with questions from the audience. Keith will also provide literature, books, t-shirts and dvds about Food Not Bombs. Keith has volunteered with Food Not Bombs for nearly 30 years. He spent two years in jail and faced life in prison in California for his work with Food Not Bombs. Amnesty International declared Keith and all Food Not Bombs volunteers “Prisoners of Conscience” if convicted. He has collected, cooked and shared vegan meals with Food Not Bombs groups in the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and the Middle East. This is also a great way to get involved with the Food Not Bombs group in your community.

Hunger and Homelessness Awareness week
WISPIRG is hosting the annual Hunger and Homelessness campaign. Awareness week runs November 15th through November 21st. This has come to be the most widely organized event featured around hunger and homelessness on campuses nationwide. Monday, November 16th is the week's day of fasting, concluding with a dinner and discussion at The Crossing from 5:30-6:30 that evening with free food. The Harding Scholarship awards full tuition plus a $10,000 annual stipend for three years to one outstanding candidate for scholarship and ministry. Candidates must have a 3.6 or higher undergraduate GPA. This competition is open to all new students pursuing any of our master's programs. Applications are due by Monday, February 1, 2010. MTSO offers five graduate degrees. The Master of Divinity is our largest program, with nine optional specializations including Biblical Languages and Texts, Youth Ministry, Pastoral Care and Counseling, Spirituality, and Church Leadership. Our second largest degree is the Master of Arts in Counseling Ministries program, which leads to state licensure as a professional counselor. Ica, Peru Mission 2010, July 29 - August 12, 2010 This Wisconsin Conference Mission trip needs 30 medical and construction volunteers. The construction team will assist bricklayers to add a second story onto COPE Methodist Green Love Church in FONAVI La Angostura in Ica. This church doubles as a school and community center. The medical team will be working in Pisco with four different churches hosting clinics. Possible Vacation Bible School option to be added to the work duties.Estimatedcostof the mission: $1400. UMVIM team to the Philippines, February 23-March 7, 2010
The project site is within the North Luzon Philippines Annual Conference. The Mission site is ASBURY COLLEGE a United Methodist institution in the town of Anda, province of Pangasinan. The town of Anda is famous for its beautiful Hundred Islands white beach resort, 150 miles north of Manila city. BOLIVIA, Thiu Rancho Center, July 31 - Aug 15, 2010
Construction and other duties as detailed by GBGM Missionaries Ardelle and Gordon Graner whose assignment is to work in solidarity with the Bolivian Evangelical Methodist Church. Thiu Rancho center is a national church project under the IEMB, Iglesia Evangelica Metodista en Bolivia. The mission is to build the Kingdom of God, seeking transformation of individuals, human relationships, and our relationship to the creation through a full commitment to Jesus Christ.

This program gives exceptional interfaith leaders the opportunity to work alongside IFYC staff while developing skills to support their own interfaith organizing work. They will engage in service learning, skill-building workshops, study the theory and history behind the interfaith youth movement, and gain valuable hands-on job experience. Interns will have the opportunity to work on various projects from curriculum design to fundraising techniques as they train one-on-one with staff mentors. World Council of Churches Youth Internship Program
Great Opportunity! The World Council of Churches is looking for five young people (age 18-30) to serve as interns in their Geneva offices. Young people are needed who are committed to the ideals of the ecumenical movement and who bring energy, commitment and fresh vision to specific work assignments.
