What are the Things that Make for Peace? Building Peace in the Midst of the Palestinian/Israeli Conflict

Archbishop Elias Chacour is the Leader of the Melkite Catholic Church of Akko, Haifa, Nazareth, and Galilee

A Palestinian Christian who is a citizen of Israel, Archbishop Chacour grew up walking the hillsides where Jesus lived, where Jesus taught “Blessed are the Peacemakers.”

Archbishop Chacour has worked for reconciliation and peace in the Middle East, especially by building high-quality schools in the Galileean village of Ibillin, where the students and faculty include Christians, Muslims, Jews, and Druze. More than 50% of the 3000 students are girls.

He is a three-time nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize, and winner of the World Methodist Peace Award and the Niwano Peace Prize.

He has written 2 books, Blood Brothers and We Belong to the Land: the Story of a Palestinian Israeli who Lives for Peace and Reconciliation.

(Both books will be available for signing at the event.)

A free-will offering will be received to support the Peace-Building work of Archbishop Chacour.

His research has taken him as far as Belfast, Northern Ireland, and as near as Milwaukee to examine how cultivating forgiveness, even in environments steeped in violence, poverty, depression and anger, can be a healing, strengthening force.

The Young Ambassadors is an exchange between the youth and young adults of the Moers Church District in Germany and the youth and young adults of the Southwest Wisconsin Association United Church of Christ (ages 16-24). SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER, University United Methodist Church

University UMC located in the Crossing bldg, is looking for a Sunday school teacher. Our worship service starts at 12 noon and ends around 1:00 PM. The children initially join the service and after the time with children (children's sermon), which is about 12:15 pm, they are dismissed to go to the Sunday school. Normally we provide an assistant teacher each Sunday, who will support the lead teacher. The age of children who currently attend our church ranges from three years old to third graders. Class can have anywhere between one child to five children.

SUMMER STAFF POSITIONS, Michigan Church Camp

All young adults are invited to apply to summer site staff at Tower Hill Camp near Lake Michigan (a camping program of the United Church of Christ). The Camp Staff works with swimming and water related activities, supervises the climbing tower, builds camp fires, works on construction projects, assists in the kitchen, helps with cleaning and maintaining the grounds, and more! The summer at Tower Hill begins with a week of training followed by 9 to 10 weeks of service, fun, and great times. Tower Hill tries very hard to make sure its staff enjoys their summer as well as grow in their leadership abilities, self-reliance, and spirituality. A summer at camp is an excellent opportunity for high school and college students to gain valuable job experience. The minimum age to apply is 16 and some positions have minimum requirements of 18 and 21. Tower Hill positions begin June 5 and go till August 14. SUMMER STAFF POSITIONS, South Dakota Church Camp

Are you ready for a summer of adventure and fun? Are you wanting to spend the summer in a part of the state that is close to awesome sights and beautiful natural surroundings? IF so, Camp Rimrock, a Christian camp affiliated with the Presbyterian Church is seeking to fill positions for camp counselor. Requires long hours and a love for working with children and teens!

Counselors will be responsible for:

  • Serving as small group leader (with the support of other counselors), being responsible for the daily study, worship, fellowship and recreations, service, or mission of a group of 10-15 campers.
  • Encouraging campers to have good personal habits by setting an example in the following areas: getting to bed on time, waking promptly, being at meals on time, personal cleanliness, good table manners, etc.
  • The conduct, activities, health, and general needs of campers in their living quarters.

  • Camp Rimrock is committed to the ministry of the Presbyterian Church. Our candidates should have a growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ and lead a life that reflects that commitment.
  • Counselors should possess strong character and demonstrate the ability to make good decisions.
